An 8th grader from Utah named Brecklynn submitted a question for the VP debate. The name nerd in me was immediately intrigued by her name, but even more so after Kamala Harris referred to her as "her" and my husband immediately went, "Wait, is that a girl's name?" My immediate thought had been that it was a variant on Brooklyn, or at the very least a -lynn name, which read as obviously feminine. He, on the other hand, had interpreted it as Brecklan, sort of a cross between Brock and Declan. It looks like both are real names, and both fit the Utah/Mormon naming style. Brecklynn is much more common, though, and turned out to be accurate in this case.

Same sound, same regionally appropriate style... two clear gender interpretations in opposite directions.
