Every year, new baby names arrive on the style scene. That means that every year, old baby names depart. It’s time to give the outgoing names their due.
21 names that had been staples of the US top-1000 popularity lists for over 30 years departed in 2019. A few of them are standbys that had made the list every single year, dating back to 1880. Claudia, for instance, had been a global staple for centuries. But others might surprise you with their longevity. How long would you have guessed that Janessa graced the girls’ popularity list? Which do you think was around longer, Chad or Dwayne? Markus with a K or Nickolas with a K?
Peruse the list to answer those questions and pay tribute to the dear departed names of 2019.

How many names are left that have been on the list since 1880?
There are still almost 200 boys’ names–some a little surprising–but the girls’ list is much shorter. It’s been a while since I updated those lists, I’ll have to do that soon!
