Here’s an opportunity to help advance name knowledge. Researchers at Hebrew Union College and the University of Southern California are conducting an online survey about American Jewish first names. They’re looking at names from many directions: choices and perceptions, religion and identity, history and geography—even how we name pets. I’m not personally involved with the project, but I’ve spoken with the lead researcher and I think she’s asking some interesting and worthwhile questions.
The survey welcomes ALL participants aged 18 and over. Some items will be more relevant to American Jews, but the research team is looking for a breadth of perspectives. You can expect to spend about 10-15 minutes filling out the survey. And if you’re curious, you can also sign up to learn about the eventual results.
